“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:9) is a statement that proves that we as humans cannot predict how God works. He works mostimes in a paradoxical way. He’s a God that specializes in bringing beauty out of ashes; the God that says the only way to receive is to give, and for you to gain your life you must first loose it.
When we take a glimpse at the life of Joseph and the Apostle Paul we see how God used them so profoundly to bring his will to pass
Apostle Paul, the very one who persecuted the church was the same one who urged people to give their lives to Christ.
Some years back, I heard a story of an atheist professor, who had an argument on speaking in tongues with his colleague (the Christian colleague). He said there was nothing like that. That it sounds surreal. So this argument continued for a while, until one day, this same atheist professor found himself speaking in tongues in front of the Christian colleague. It was so shocking to see himself speak in the tongue that he thought didn’t exist. God can work in ways dat we don’t expect. He used even the persecutor to spread his word. A paradox!
Joseph’s brothers thought by selling him off, that would be the end of him, but unknowingly to them, they were doing him good.
Gen 50:20, Joseph said to his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”
This reminds me of Romans 8:28 that says , “And we know that God causes everything to work together[m] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
Nick Vujicic is another exemplar of how God works. Nick is a man born without limbs but without limits. He has travelled to almost everywhere in the world, bringing the message of hope to the hopeless; preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He said this on Oprah show, “God didn’t give me this pain. What the enemy wanted to use as bad, God turned it into good.” Amen! (https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1439878236298976&id=100008304394188)
Whenever we are faced with any challenge, we should remember that tough times don’t last; that though we may weep now, but it only endures for the night, cause joy comes in the morning.
In the midst of a terrible storm, in acts 27, where everyone was clothed with fear and running helter skelter, Paul was calm because an angel of The Lord had spoken to him a night before that even though the ship will go down, none will die. Although the word of God had come but still there was no calm in the sea. For God’s promise to be fulfilled, it would take the faith of Paul. Ask Father Abraham and he will tell you that he had to wait for 25 good, long years for the promise of God to come to pass. Though it may tarry, keep waiting for it, for in due season it shall come to pass (Habakuk 2:3) In this present generation, we want jehovah sharp sharp. As soon as God sends his word, we want it to come to pass immediately. And when we don’t seem to see a silver lining in the cloud, we lose our grip. That’s not how it works. We have to hold on to God’s word, because his word is Yea and Amen; when he decrees a thing, it comes to pass.
Also in chapter 28 of acts , we see where the people of the island accused Paul of being a murderer because he was bitten by a snake. They thought, “after facing that heavy storm in the sea, he’s now facing another terrible one” so they waited to see him swell from the snake’s bite and die. But to their utmost surprise and disappointment, he shook off the snake and was unarmed. Then they said, “he must be a god”
Lesson: we shouldn’t be quick to put people in a box.
Because we see someone in a circumstance, we think it’s because the person did this or that. “I think it’s because he’s a sinner, that’s why he’s been punished” or can this person amount to anything in life after been in this mess?” We fail to realize that God specializes in bringing beauty out of ashes; he can use anything or anybody irrespective of their past. Every sinner has a future. Don’t be quick to judge. We can’t fathom the grace and mercy of God. It’s capable of doing anything.
And if you are in a situation were you’ve been written off, it’s just a matter of time, the opinions of people towards you will change for the better when they see the hands of God evident in your life. Just as the people of the Island saw that in all of these crisis, Paul came out without a scratch, they renamed him from a murderer to a god, that’s how it will be for you. Keep trusting God.
Finally, we should always remember that tommorow is better than where we are now. Give a God a chance, and you will never remain the same again. If you are not born again, there is no way you can be a partaker of God’s promises. You need to give your life to Christ. You do this by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus asyour Lord and Saviour. Are you set for it? Why not say this prayer of faith from your heart: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now I know I am born again!
