The ultimate reason why God created man is to manage the earth (the works of his hands). The word manage means to be in charge of, to run something. God was looking for someone to be in charge of the garden so he formed Adam. Genesis 2 noted that God withheld rain to fall on the earth because there was no man to manage it. In otherwords, God will withold growth from a place that lacks management. God himself is a manager. When we pray the Lord’s Prayer, we ask him for his will to be done on earth as it’s in heaven. He manages (is in charge) of heaven. That’s why heaven is perfect.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth, as it is in heaven.
And in order to extend his management to earth, he placed man, who is in his image to tend and manage the earth.
When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, 5 neither wild plants nor grains were growing on the earth. For the Lord God had not yet sent rain to water the earth, and there were no people to cultivate the soil. 6 Instead, springs[b] came up from the ground and watered all the land. 7 Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.
The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. Genesis 2:5-17
By now we have realized that it’s not everything we ask God for that he provides. Because God will always give us something that we can manage not what we want.
Many a time, people pray to God for a life partner and God doesn’t always answer that prayer because he sees that if this person gets married today, the marriage would be a disaster, as this person doesn’t know what it is to be a wife or a husband, what’s to be a mother and a father. what communication entails, what’s to love unconditionally, what’s to be a helpmeet or the head, the purpose of marriage and even to learn how to cook and care for a home. So he allows time for growth in that person’s life first and when God sees that the person now possess the qualities of a good manager in marriage, he brings the life partner in his/ her way.
God does this to protect our wellbeing, to protect us from crisis, but what many people do is that they go ahead of God and in the long run, crisis creeps into their marriage and they think their partner is not the right partner. Meanwhile, the partner is the right one but it is not just the right time to be married, as they lack the skills to manage the institution of marriage.
Whatever you mismanage you will lose. If you mismanage your money- you lose it; if you mismanage your children, you will lose them; if you mismanage your marriage, you will lose it; if you mismanage time, you will lose it; if you mismanage your business, you will lose it. Therefore, crisis arise from mismanagement, and the best way to handle it is to manage it – Myles Munroe
Our management mandate is embodied in the life of Joseph. From portiphar’s house to the prison and to pharaoh’s palace, Joseph was placed in charge of everything.
This pleased Potiphar, so he soon made Joseph his personal attendant. He put him in charge of his entire household and everything he owned. Gen 39:4
Before long, the warden put Joseph in charge of all the other prisoners and over everything that happened in the prison. Gen 40:22
41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt. Gen41:41
Before Joseph was made a manager over all these things, he had to grow first in his father’s house.
When Joseph was seventeen years old, he often tended his father’s flocks. He worked for his half brothers, the sons of his father’s wives Bilhah and Zilpah. Genesis 37:2
The word “tend” means to dress, to care for, to be in charge of. That’s the same word Genesis 2 uses to describe the mandate of man.
Joseph learnt management skills in his father’s house before God deemed it fit to take him to Egypt and make him the prime minster of the land.
In the same vein, God allows us to grow before he gives us what we so desire. Our growth could come from the disappointment we experience. When Paul realized this, he said,
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
What are you doing with the period you are waiting for your heart desire? Are you just siting down waiting? If you merely fold your hands waiting for your heart desire, you end up extending the period that you would get what you desire from God, because your breakthrough is waiting on you to be equipped for it.
So as you wait, get busy developing your mind and acquiring the skills of a good manager- read books, ask questions, read the bible(the ultimate) as God will withold growth from a place that lacks a manager. See my older post titled – waiting and winning: https://idogunesohe1.wordpress.com/2014/10/31/waiting-winning/
Therefore, wherever you find yourself, have it in mind that you have been placed there to be a manager – workplace, marriage, school, church etc. For we have been called to dominate the earth
In addition, you cannot be a good manager if you don’t know the manager himself- The Lord Jesus. When you know him, you rub off the qualities that make him The Manager. If you are set to surrender your life to him and give him a place in your life, please say this short prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now I know I am born again!
