Women on the Cutting Edge (Be different!)

You cannot be a reference point on earth and even in heaven, until you have done something unusual. In the same vein, you cannot make a difference until you are different. In the midst of women there are WOMEN and in the midst of Christians there are CHRISTIANS
Mary, the mother of Jesus proved this fact when she made this statement, “Now all generations will call be blessed.” The statement was born out of a heart that was completely in awe at the height of favour that she had received from God. Imagine bringing the son of God to the world through your womb. Hmmm, you must be highly favoured… And that was the state of Mary. Mind you, Mary didn’t just get favoured like that, she provoked it by her reverence for God

“Oh, how my soul praises the Lord.
47 How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!
48 For he took notice of his lowly servant girl,
and from now on all generations will call me blessed.
49 For the Mighty One is holy,
and he has done great things for me.
50 He shows mercy from generation to generation
    to all who fear him.
51 His mighty arm has done tremendous things!
He has scattered the proud and haughty ones.
52 He has brought down princes from their thrones
    and exalted the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away with empty hands.
54 He has helped his servant Israel
    and remembered to be merciful.
55 For he made this promise to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his children forever.” Luke 1

Mary was determined to honour God with her body. She was willing to be different. And because she honoured God, God honoured her by bringing his son, Jesus, into the world through her.

But I will honor those who honor me, and I will despise those who think lightly of me
1 Samuel 2:30

For Jesus to come into this world, he had to come through a virgin and the virgin must be from the tribe of Judah (David’s line). Assuming Mary lost her virginity on the premise that “everybody is doing it, so why shouldn’t I” she would have lost her place in destiny and God would have chosen another person, who is in one corner, crying out to him to use her. But thank God Mary did it God’s way. Thank God she decided to endure the criticism and disdain of others for the joy that was set before her. Thank God she decided to delay today’s gratification for the pleasures of tommorow.

One thing I have learnt in my little life is that God’s promises are conditional. Even though he reveals to you that you are going to do mighty things, it still depends on you for that revelation to be fulfilled. Deuteronomy 28 starts with “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. 2 You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God…” So his promises for us are all subject to our obedience to his laws. Mary said, God shows mercy on those who fear him. See God’s calling on your life as a privilege. Never get to comfortable thinking that nothing can happen without you, cos God will surprise you. His purpose never changes, but his plans can. He can change man. Be aware of this truth!

Are you in the time of your life when it seems that you are the only odd one out? Does it seem as though every tongue is against you because you are not walking in their path? I have goodnews for you! As far as you know that you are doing the right thing, hang in there, because time will tell. Elijah had the same mentality and he complained to God, telling God how he was the only prophet left in the land. But God told him that he was not the only one left, that they were still 7000 people who hadn’t bowed down to Baal. In the same vein, you are not the only one left, even though you feel so. It might be that the others are not as vocal as you are. Just hang in there! God will strengthen you for 2 chronicles 16:9 says, “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”
Oh how I love psalm 1:1- the end. It explains this truth explicitly

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
    or stand around with sinners,
    or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.

3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
    bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.
4 But not the wicked!
They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.
5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment.
Sinners will have no place among the godly.
6 For the Lord watches over the path of the godly,
but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

Keep his laws wholeheartedly, even though you think you are the only doing it, because a great reward awaits you. (psalm 19:9-11) this great reward is a transgenerational one. God will use you to transform your generation and generations yet unborn. Just like Mary. Mary said, “now, all generations will call be blessed.” Why! Because her reward for obeying God had finally come. Hang in there, endure the shame of today, for it is the one that laughs last that laughs best.
Till soon,
