THE INTERRUPTED LIFE

Mary was just a simple girl who dreamt of a simple life. She already knew the man with whom she would spend the rest of her life with and just like some of us, she had a particular direction in which her life would spread out. But here comes a message from God that interrupted the course of her life forever.

“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel[f] forever; his Kingdom will never end!” Luke 1

The angel was asking her to do something she never envisaged. He was asking her to forgo the plan that her first child would be Joseph’s biological son to embracing the new plan that her first child would be God’s son. He was asking her to take a path that could possibly threaten her engagement/future with her fiancé. He was asking for her permission to interrupt her life.

Just the same way he asked of Mary, God is asking the same of you today. He wants you to give up that picture, that plan you have for yourself and yield to his own call. That future of being a medical doctor to being a pastor. That future of being a CEO in a top firm in Canada to relocating back home and catering for the needs of a certain people. He is asking of you to take a detour into his glorious plan. May I remind you that every of his plan has a generational blessing attached to it! He wants to use us in a way that’s larger and greater than what we’ve ever dreamed our lives to be.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us. Ephesians 3:20

Thousands of years later, Mary is still remembered and celebrated for taking that detour. Let him interrupt your schedule. It always ends in praise.
